R B Bissessarlal Motilal Halwasiya Science Museum, Banglore https://halwasiya.net/galleries/r-b-bissessarlal-motilal-halwasiya-science-museum-banglore/ Wed, 01 Dec 1948 07:47:00 +0000 https://halwasiya.net/?post_type=lsvr_gallery&p=1696 As museums of science go, the one at the Raman Research Institute in Bengaluru is one of a kind. A stone plaque outside has it named after Rai Bahadur Bissesurlal Motilal Halwasiya, a philanthropist. It is a unique insight into Sir C V Raman and the collection he built up over the years.

The museum itself is housed in rooms set aside in the main building of the Raman Institute. According to the longtime curator, Shashikumar, the assembly of the museum’s collection began in 1948, after Sir C V Raman left the IISc and began to set up the Research Institute. Walking into the museum, one immediately sees an array of crystals, from pyrite, quartz, mica, jade and beyond.

However it is shameful on art of the curator of the museum to discriminate against the Halwasiya family calling us a family of sweet vendors when they have no idea of our history, his discrimination against the family is widely visible in the links of the articles pointed below

It was 1939, The world was horrified with the beginnings of World War II and India was stuck in a political deadlock.

Bissessurlal Hurgobind Shradh Ghat https://halwasiya.net/galleries/bissessurlal-hurgobind-shradh-ghat/ Fri, 01 Dec 1916 09:59:00 +0000 https://halwasiya.net/?post_type=lsvr_gallery&p=1701 At the Kolkata end of the Howrah Bridge, as one gets off on the right, or southern side of the bridge and you can descend into the heart of Mullick Ghat Flower Market. Passing through the maze that is the market, as one tries and get closer to the river, the first ghat to stumble upon, right next to the bridge, is the Rai Bahadur BissessurLal Hurgobind Sradh Ghat.

The ghat that was erected in 1916. In front of the Ghat one will find a raised area with parallel bars. This spot was in use as a wrestling ring by local “pehelwans”. Nearby are also five banyan trees, each containing a small shrine at its base.

A narrow and slippery path leads down to the river from the Bissessurlal Hurgobind Sradh Ghat. Taking this path, keep going south, further away from the Howrah Bridge.
